Travelogue, Day 20: Pictures of Yankee Stadium

| October 28, 2009

Those of you who are my Facebook friends have already seen these, but in case you aren’t, here are some pictures of Yankee Stadium.

Our tour begins, as it should, in the press box. On the left is the media dining room, where many reporters who didn’t get seats in the main box, right, were camped out. I am currently in the media work room, still debating whether to go out to the aux box for the game. Pictures of that are below.

Travelogue, Day 20: A day at the museum

| October 28, 2009

It was raining this morning, so I didn’t really want to go marching all around Manhattan, but I also didn’t want to sit in my hotel room. I couldn’t even sleep in that late because all the hot water in the hotel was going to be shut off at 10 am (some maintenance thing), so I had to be up and showered before then. So I ended up going to the Museum of Natural History, in search of Ross Geller.

Travelogue, Day 19: At Yankee Stadium

| October 27, 2009

Today was the big pre-World Series workout day, which as you know by now is really just a media day with some batting practice. I got my first look at the new $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium, including a statue of George Steinbrenner. Yes, a statue of George. I didn’t get a chance to take a picture, but I hope to get one Wednesday.

Travelogue: Waiting

| October 25, 2009

Sitting on my couch here getting ready to watch the Yankees-Angels game so I can see where I’m going. If the Yankees win tonight, I’ve got to get myself to New York tomorrow. The good news is there would be no particular time pressure to get there, because the workout day for the World Series would be Tuesday. If the Angels win, I stay here tomorrow and wait for Game 7. If the Yankees win Game 7, I might have to take a red-eye immediately after the game to get to New York, if I want to be there in time for the workout.

Travelogue, Day 17: Home

| October 23, 2009

Woke up in LA this morning and flew home. I was reminded again why LAX is the worst airport in America. Worst that I’ve been in anyway. The security line stretched about 100 yards out the door onto the sidewalk, although it moved relatively quickly. The good news is I was home in time to have lunch with my wife, who then left town to go away for the weekend with her college friends. It stinks that we will hardly see each other during my little break from the playoffs, but it’s good for her to have a break from being a single parent for much of the month.

Travelogue, Day 16: Last chance at the beach

| October 22, 2009

The good news is the Phillies won last night, eliminating the Dodgers, so I get to go home on Friday morning for the whole weekend before leaving for the World Series. The bad news is that I’m likely done with Southern California for a while. That being the case, I decided to make the most of my last free morning in LA. Of course, I went back to the beach. In case you haven’t guessed by now, I really love the Hermosa/Redondo/Manhattan Beach area of LA. I changed it up a little from my normal run at the strand, though. I started with breakfast at a little cafe right by the water.

Travelogue, Day 15: Yankees, Angels … Ducks?

| October 21, 2009

It’s about 2:30 on Wednesday and I’m basically killing time here in the Angel Stadium press box, because I’m finished with my baseball work for the day (more on that later), and tonight I’ve got tickets to go across the street and see the Ducks and Stars. (That’s NHL, not a breakfast cereal.) An old friend of mine works in the Ducks’ front office, and he’s getting me tickets, along with entry to the club-level restaurant before the game, so I can watch the Dodgers-Phillies game. Sounds pretty cool, huh?
