Sabean breaks it down with me

I just had a little sit-down with Brian Sabean in which he laid out, in fine detail, exactly what he plans to do to fix the Giants between now and the trading deadline. OK, maybe he didn’t quite do that. But he did give me a few hints.
Read the whole story over at FanHouse, but here are a few of the bullet points.
- The Giants won’t be acquiring any players who are free agents at the end of the year. (Jose Guillen, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Ty Wigginton.)
- The Giants will consider anyone who is signed beyond this year, no matter what his salary is. Sabean said specifically that the Giants have money to spend.
- It’s unlikely the Giants would add a first baseman because they’ve already got too many.
- Given all that, I listed Corey Hart, David DeJesus and Josh Willingham as players who would be good fits for the Giants.
- The Giants would consider even adding a starting pitcher. (This seemed like a longshot to me. It makes sense only if you are talking about a back-of-the-rotation guy who might allow you to trade one of the other guys, like Sanchez, for a bat.)
- Buster Posey would be able to handle catching more frequently. I actually wonder if this is really true, or if it’s just something that Sabean is saying to a) be nice to Buster and b) light a fire under Bengie.
- Sabean isn’t worried about Lincecum or Sandoval. He said they just set the bar awfully high, and the league has made some adjustments to them.
Anyway, I don’t want to spoil the rest for you.
