OK, I’m a Giants fan now

Well, not really a Giants fan in the traditional fashion. I’m more a Giants fan because it’s suddenly hit me that the Giants need to win if I want to sleep in my bed at all in October.
See, back when I covered the Giants for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, I was more ambivalent about them making the playoffs. If they did, great. It would be exciting. People would be reading my stories. I’d be traveling, but never for too long. After all, they’d always come back home after every few games. And if they didn’t make the playoffs, well, my vacation would start earlier.
Now, it’s different.
Now that I’m a national baseball writer for FanHouse, I am going to be covering the playoffs the entire month of October, whether or not the Giants make it. If the Giants don’t make it, I’m going to be on the road the whole month.
Part of me is excited by that possibility. It would be cool flying around and seeing all these exciting games all over the country. Then there’s a part of me that’s thinking my wife and kids might forget who I am. And how do you pack for a 30-day road trip?
Anyway, I’m sure none of you care about my problems. That’s OK. I don’t care about yours either.
