Justin Duchscherer threw off the mound this morning for the first time since February. Duchscherer threw about 25 pitches and said “everything went well.” Manager Bob Geren said Duchscherer will have one more bullpen session, probably Sunday, and then go from there.
A normal progression would have him throwing batting practice or a simulated game (which are sort of the same thing, except they keep track of the count and the outs in the latter), and then a minor league game.
In other injury news — what other kind of news is there with the A’s? – Eric Chavez is going to undergo some “strenuous” testing on Saturday morning to determine if he’s ready to take his next step. He’s been throwing for a week, but hasn’t hit in almost two weeks.
Mark Ellis is going to play second in a minor league game on Saturday, his first defensive game-action of the spring. He’ll do that again on Monday and then make his defensive debut in Wednesday’s game against the White Sox.
