I disagree with the groupthink going on that the NL West is a bad division. Call me crazy, but a Haren/Webb/Scherzer front of a rotation is legit, and Chris Young, Justin Upton, Stephen Drew and Conor Jackson all have a bunch of potential. The Dodgers are similarly dangerous.

Can’t wait to see what Bumgarner, Posey, Alderson, Gillaspie and Villalona can do in the future, but for now, it’s a third-place destiny.

I didn't vote, because on one hand I very strongly oppose the way he's built the team, but on the other hand I support the way he's building the future team. We need another category.

Wow, 76 percent approval rating! Sabean is more popular than Barack Obama -- although neither one of them has found me a job yet.

I want to point out that the Giants are in the position they are because Sabean did an incredibly poor job. That said, he's gotten back to what he does well. Keep in mind he got to be a GM by being head of the Yankees scouting department when they were drafting and developing the likes of Rivera, Jeter, Williams, Petite and such. He's done a good job of rebuilding our farm system and that should pay off well into the future. The signings this offseason make sense - Renteria is just a stopgap because we have no MLB ready shortstops in our farm system, so we give him 2 years to give our players time to develop and he's out the door. Uribe and Aurilia are on minor league deals, so I don't see how you can complain about them. I like seeing the youngsters play, it's essential we find out if they're fits for our team in the long term. I can't deny that every time I see the word Giants or Sabean in the same sentence as trade, I'm terrified, though. The Rowand signing didn't make a whole lot of sense, though.

Jeff, I don't have a problem with trying the younger players like Ishikawa and Sandoval at these positions IF you can support them with a stud outfielder or second baseman, or some other position that has pop, but the Giants have no studs ANYWHERE in their lineup. They have nobody to carry the offense, most playoff teams have at least one big bat (usually two or three), so it is natural for the fans to want a stud at either first or third base, since the Giants outfielders are all non-stud type hitters. Sabean wants to keep Winn, Rowand, and Lewis out there, so where is the offense going to come from??

Just look at the Giant's payroll. It's staggering how much s**t players are making. I scratched my head with the Zito signing (at the time, not one of the teams in my 8-team fantasy league had him on their squad), but Renteria is incredibly mind-boggling. Let alone the numbers being dished out to Roberts, Uribe (are you kidding!), Rowand, Aurilia, and let's also not forget how much they gave to Klesko a couple of years ago. The Giant's have money, yet they choose to spend it so strangely. Then when they have a crop of youngsters who might be able to play, they pick up some mid-age player for way more than anyone else was willing to spend on them, thereby cutting into the time of developing said youngsters, leading to further problems in the future. Let his contract end, shake his hand, and pat him on the back as he leaves.
