As a SRV alum, my opinion is biased. I'm pulling hard for him to at least get a real shot. He'd be better off getting traded to the Braves though...

I would prefer to see him kept as opposed to keeping Dave Roberts around because of the huge contract that Sabean gave him, which prohibits anyone wanting him in a trade. Schierholtz's arm and defense and power are better than Roberts, plus he is younger. If he turns into an "Andre Ethier" type, that is ok with me.

I just want to point out that Jeff Francoer was arguably the single worst player in major league baseball last year. In terms of win values he contributed -1.2 win values (based on fangraphs stats), the single worst number for qualified players in major league baseball...

I hope Schierholtz is better than that, however, it seems most scouts have him pegged as a 4th outfielder type.

Nate rarely walks and doesn't hit the ball in the air enough to be a power threat. Sabean, himself said they don't know what Nate can give them because of his swing type. I don't think he will ever be a regular.

Why is it that every hitting prospect we have can't draw walks and lacks plate discipline?

But back to Nate, I really think his performance in the Olympics was a coming out party and the Giants really need to find a way to get him into the lineup more often than not. I agree with you Jeff in that I think he becomes a solid everyday player and his glove is well above average which is great for that tricky right field at AT&T.

But comparing him to Francoer? No way, he isn't that much of a free swinger.
