Couple of items buried deep within the news today…
Dan Johnson is going to be playing in Japan. Reports today are that he signed a $1.2 million deal with the Yokohama Bay Stars, although a little googling revealed that word of this started spreading three weeks ago. Johnson did some nice things in his time with the A’s, and he was always one of my favorites in the clubhouse — hence, his mention here — but he’s probably going to have to wear a Rays hat when he’s inducted into the Coon Rapids, Minn., Hall of Fame because of this.
Also, Shawn Estes has signed with the Dodgers. Assuming Estes finds his way into at least one game with the Dodgers he’ll join the Matt Herges Club, having appeared for all five teams in the NL West. Gotta give Estes credit for perseverance. He keeps bouncing around and suffering various injuries, but he keeps coming back again and again and again.
