Jeff, but surely you get my point; the Giants were stuck in a bad stadium with no idea of how to get out of it until the Magowan group came along.

Why is trading for Holliday such a bad idea? I don’t get the logic….unless you’re gun shyafter the A.J. Pierzynski for Boof Bonzer, Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan deal….

If I were Giants fans, instead of pinning my hopes on Man-Ram, I’d be hoping that Sabean has enough smarts to be on the phone with Billy Beane and discussing trade options for Matt Holliday when the trade deadline comes around…if not before hand.

Actually, the best thing to happen to the Giants since Mays would be the sale of the team to Peter Magowan, who saved the Giants from being moved to Tampa Bay.

So they shouldn’t sign him because they don’t have a big bat behind him? So you’d rather have another mediocre/crappy hitter in lieu of ManRam on the basis that at least that batter will be pitched to?

its a bad idea because hes a one-year rental on a team that is looking to the future. 2009 will be a fun year, where we have a chance to contend, but throwing away 2010 for matt holliday is insane. Now…if he played 3rd base and had 3 years left on his contract, i’d be all for it.

Jessie, the last year Kent was behind Bonds was 2002 (first half only, then Bonds was behind Kent). I’m pretty sure Bonds won the MVP in 2003 and 2004, mostly with the likes of Edgardo Alfonzo, Jose Cruz, Benito Santiago and Pedro Feliz hitting behind him.BR/BR/Also, the move to Tampa had already been rejected before Peter Magowan entered the picture. It’s a common myth that he “saved” the team from moving.

Not a winner? Manny has done nothing but help teams win! He helped two Boston Red Sox teams win World Series, getting the WS MVP in 2004. He helped get the Indians to the World Series in 1997. And just this season he was the catalyst that drove the Dodgers to the NLCS. Say what you will about his attitude, but there’s no possible way to claim this dude isn’t a winner.

He won in Cleveland, he won in Boston, he carried LA to the playoffs…you’re right, he’s not a winner. I’m not even a Manny fan per se, but I’m not oblivious to his positive impact to a lineup as well as the financial benefit of having him in LF each day/night.BR/BR/If by “bad influence” you mean that he would set an example of offensive excellence, demonstrates how to approach an at-bat or that he could show that you don’t need to swing at every single pitch regardless of it’s location/count/situation then you’re right, he is a bad influence to young players.BR/BR/That “malcontent prima donna” as you put it was the best thing to happen to the Giants since Mays, I think fans and the Giants owe him a huge thanks for all he did on the field.
