On Henderson’s conference call right now, and he says he wants to have an A’s hat on his plaque at the Hall of Fame. Of course, it’s not up to him. The HOF decides. Still, it seems pretty likely that would be their decision. He set the single-season and all-time stolen base records with the A’s, and won his MVP with the A’s.

“My career playing in Oakland was fantastic,” he said. “I had a wonderful time. The fans of Oakland are the best. They pulled for me even when I left and came back. When I came back they cheered. Its always been my home. We didn’t get the opportunity to say goodbye for the last time.”

Henderson also says he still wouldn’t mind putting on an A’s uniform one more time, even though his election to the HOF pretty much forces him to finally retire.

“Maybe they could work it out so it doesn’t mess up anything,” he said.
