Choice for Sanchez

Jonathan Sanchez has been selected to the provisional roster for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.pIt will be interesting to see if Sanchez opts to go. If I were him, I wouldn’t want to do anything that affected my preparation for what figures to be the most important season of his career. This is the year when we’ll see if he’s a solid consistent starter, or just a swingman.

Bengie Molina is also on the Puerto Rico roster and Pablo Sandoval is on Venezuela’s. The A’s Brad Ziegler and Joey Devine are on the roster for Team USA.

My hope is he stays away from the WBC. He pitched significantly more innings last season than he had ever pitched in his career and the fatigue showed after the all star break. At the end of June he was 8-4, 3.73 ERA, 102 k’s in 103 innings, and 10 quality starts.

He began to decline after that start, although having only pitched 75 2/3 innings the year before that is somewhat understandable.

I look for him to have a breakout year this season, and sustain it late in the season…. provided he stays away from the WBC that is.
